“The studio is where ideas, material and colour come together. There is a lot of research and experimentation, but also observation.
Drawings, ceramic tests, glazes, slips and patinas are part of a vocabulary that I have developed over the years and that keeps evolving with the work.
I like to be involved in the whole process. It takes time, and I think that time is important. Working directly with ceramic means getting to know the material very closely — its variations, its reactions, the way colour and surface can change.
When all the elements are finally there, I compose with them almost as I would paint, looking for something immediate and instinctive within a process that is actually very slow.”
